Who are you looking for?
Although the theme of the podcast is ADHD, it’s a space for everyone, whether you’ve got a formal diagnosis or just want to learn more. There’s a broad scope for everyone and anyone, so although some guests do have ADHD, other are the parents, partners, psychologists (and even personal trainers), who work with or support people with the diagnosis. I’ve also featured guests with more broad, neurodivergent knowledge and experience. The podcast aims to validate, inspire and educate, through open, deep conversations.
What happens on the day of recording?
The format is as follows:
The recording is about 60 minutes.
The interview process might take us about 75 minutes in total, in case we need to pause, but also for us to have a general natter at the start to get comfortable with each other.
Separate from the interview, I will record a brief introduction, so if there’s any information you’d really like to be included, please let me know.
I’ll begin by asking you to introduce yourself and you can choose whichever direction you go with this. It could be about your job, your experience of ADHD or about your hobbies and passions. Anything that you think is an important part of your story.
To keep the conversation flowing naturally, I won’t prepare too many questions, so if you want to go off on tangents, go for it.
I will round up the interview asking you if you have any words of wisdom for people listening to the episode.
And lastly, I will give you a minute at the very end to remind people of your socials / where we can find you.
What I ask of you -
Please complete the questionnaire. If writing is difficult for you, feel free to drop me voice notes. This gives me all the information I need to help me do my research before the interview, and to make the interview more relaxed and conversational.
I will produce show notes for your episode - if you have a website and/or social media, a podcast, etc, please make sure I have this information before the interview so that I can include it in the show notes.
When you share about the interview please @ me. On Insta @HyperactiveLiving or on Twitter @AngelaKirwinUK
In terms of the recording, to make sure we achieve the best possible quality, the following might help:
If you have a mic, please use it - f you don't, but have headphones with a mic, please use those
Try to be in a place that keeps sound to a minimum, and avoid echoey spaces. Soft furnishings help a lot!
Don't worry if kids, the dog - or even the delivery guy - make an appearance. This is real life. I can edit things out, and sometimes interruptions add to the fun of an episode.
When telling stories involving other people, please try to avoid using their names
There are occasions where an interview simply doesn't work, or doesn’t fit with the publishing schedule. If this is the case, please don’t take it personally. I’ll do everything I can to rescue sound quality and edit, but sometimes it’s just not possible.
· And, finally, the podcast should be a safe space for anyone. So, if the interview drifts into the realms of racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, etc., I will ask that we stop recording.
Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, especially if you have an ADHD brain!
